The Tree that Cracked by Warren Bonett

Vinnie loves his treehouse. It’s special. His Grandpa made it years ago for Vinnie’s mum when she was only little. He plays there and in the huge tree with Mr Socks his cat feeling connected to everything he cares about, but there’s a big storm coming.

This is a deeply personal story for me. I was raised by a single mum for half of my childhood and her quiet strength and love still cradle my inner sense of self. I wanted to write this story to celebrate those things and show how we cope with loss when we’re given love. Vinnie and his mum aren’t loud or showy in their expression of love but they can clearly rely on each other.

This story as of July 2023 doing the submission rounds as a full storyboard with the sample illustrations shown here.
