Trying my hand at Landscape Painting

Clubhouse in Royal Park, Oils

So I’ve begun to work on my fine art again as well as the picture books and writing. It’s been 30 years since my solo show in London opposite the British Museum at Gallery 47, 25 years since my several group shows in Sydney in various small galleries, 15 years since my dual show (Works in Parallel) with Geoffrey Stocks at Herron Gallery in Castlemaine, and 2 years since my little win at the Biblioart prize. Life has been ridiculously full in that time – I’ve run several businesses, raised a family, and said goodbye to some of the people I care most about in the world. And now more than ever for whatever reason I feel utterly compelled to paint, make images and write stories.

In the spirit of this, I’ve begun a series of landscape studies and paintings of my suburb, in particular Royal Park. And this tree, this place is my first large work on this subject. This time in oils, a medium that has completely taken over everything I do.
