Biblioart Prize 2021

We were at war with a blind string of DNA, mixed media

I finally win a prize!! The Starving Artist Prize a sub-prize at the BiblioArt Show! Well, I’m not exactly starving, but it a very nice prize nonetheless! The submitted piece, this time inspired by the fabulous book Providence by Max Barry, is titled “We were at war with a blind string of DNA“. And gilding the lily somewhat the piece also sold. So quite happy with that thank you.

My process in this one was quite different as I had a strong idea right at the outset, using a photogravure etching I’d produced earlier but never finished I painted with acrylic the featured lost-in-space-man floating in the blackness.

The idea came from a beautifully written section in the book where … oh wait, no spoilers! You’ll just have to read it. Oh and it’s very much worth checking out the venue which is the completely unique Blarney Books and Art in Port Fairy. The show is in its 12th year and attracts artists from all over the country.
